Engineering & Public Works

The purpose of the Public Works Department is to ensure services provided by the Town of Truro meet the minimum professional engineering requirements.  Regulation of services is carried out by a professional engineer registered with the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia.

Services offered by the Town of Truro are classified as primary and secondary services. Primary services include: sanitary and storm services, water, fire hydrants and streets, and lateral access to lots. Secondary services include: sidewalks, concrete curb and gutter, and asphalt paving.

The Public Works Department follows the Nova Scotia Road Builders Association Standard Specifications For Municipal Services and the Road and Transportation Association of Canada's Manual of Geometric Design Standards for Canadian Roads. Servicing requires the joint certificate of approval by the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Nova Scotia Department of Health, while construction sites must meet the Nova Scotia Department of Environment's Erosion and Sedimentation Control Handbook for Construction Sites and Environmental Construction Practice Specifications.
