As the regional leader in the promotion of orderly industrial development in central Nova Scotia, Truro offers an excellent opportunity for new and established industrial ventures. The combination of a well trained, highly skilled workforce and a superb quality of life contributes to Truro's continuing industrial success. The majority of growth has occurred in the Truro Industrial Park, the second oldest park in the province. Administered by the Truro Industrial Development Society (formerly Truro Industrial Commission), the Park and the Debert Industrial Park in Colchester County benefit from a controlled and secure environment for growth and development. Local industry includes a wide variety of uses such as manufacturing, processing, and warehousing, with the largest employers in textiles and plastics. Over the years, the success of the industrial sector has contributed to the stability and the sense of security for both the town and industry alike. Truro Industrial Development Society:The Truro Industrial Commission was established in 1963, one year following the formation of the Truro Industrial Park, Nova Scotia's second such industrial centre. As a result of the Municipal Government Act, which eliminates most Commissions, the assets of the Truro Industrial Commission have been vested in the newly formed Truro Industrial Development Society. The purpose of the Society is to promote appropriate industrial and commercial development in the Park as well as other sections of the Town of Truro, and community economic development in the region. The Industrial Park, with an area of 267 acres, is situated along major transportation routes: Canadian National Railways, Trans Canada Highway, the Debert Air Industrial Park, Halifax International Airport, and the International Port of Halifax. Since 1985, the Industrial Park has increased the number of businesses 133%, and the number of jobs by 94%, making it one of the most successful parks in the Province. The industries located in the Park range from light to medium manufacturing, with some companies in product distribution. However, the emphasis has been on the development of textiles and plastic related products. The Truro Industrial Development Society has entered into an agreement with Colchester Park Development Society to promote the Truro Industrial Park. This collaboration will assist existing and future industrial ventures to find a suitable site for their operation in the Town of Truro or surrounding Colchester County. For further information on the Truro Industrial Park including history, amenities, contact, topography, location, park plan, servicing, pricing, access and property listings, please Truro Industrial Park (1.08 MB).
