K-9 Section

The Truro Police Service K9 section was established in 1994. Since this time there have been four K9 Teams including the current team consisting of K9 handler CST. Jason Yhard and (PSD) police service dog QUAID. CST Yhard has been a member of the Truro Police Service since 2002. CST Yhard spent 5 years in general patrol duties before being transferred to the section in March 2007.

QUAID, a pure bred German Sheppard (sable) was born on August 31st, 2006 in Germany. QUAID was purchased through Vanderhaus Kennels in Ohio (USA) which specializes in police service and protection dogs. He was imported to Truro from Frankfort, Germany in July 2007 when he was 11 months old.

CST Yhard and Quaid successfully completed a 4 month general purpose K9 course in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This course is certified through the Department of Justice and was instructed by CST Steven Cooper of the Halifax Regional Police K9 section.

Police Dog Quaid

Quaid is trained in several different profiles which include Obedience, Aggression, Tracking, Building searching, Article Searching, and Narcotics searching. The team has been in service since February 2008.
