Kiwanis Park has been a major initiative of the Truro Kiwanis Club for over 30 years. It is a small, but picturesque park located in the west end of Truro.

Sadly, the Kiwanis Club of Truro has disbanded. The Kiwanis Park was turned over to the Department of Parks & Recreation. The Town of Truro Recreation Department staff are responsible for turf care, regular park maintenance and repairs.

Fisherama

Each spring (May) the Cobequid Salmon Association organizes the Fisherama held at Kiwanis Park for youths 16-under.

Duck Overpopulation

Kiwanis Park does have a significant problem as a result of duck overpopulation. As many as 600 to 800 ducks have been counted at the park during the late fall. A large portion of this problem is contributed to the public providing them with feed. Some individuals regularly spread 20 - 25 Kgs of duck feed around the west-end of Kiwanis Park. Staff of the Department of Parks & Recreation have been instructed to clean up feed whenever they see it, so that the ducks will not be encouraged to stay as a result of the artificial feeding situation.

The overpopulation of ducks does contributes to considerable turf difficulties and provides the proper conditions for a major disease outbreak.

Quick Fact: The distance around the park is 2046'.
So 2 1/2 laps = 1 mile
