Town of Truro Receives Five Blooms
during National Communities in Bloom Event
~ October 2011

The Town of Truro received word in October that it had achieved a top rating of "Five Blooms" as part of the national Communities in Bloom Program in Canada. The recognition was received during the National Awards Ceremonies held in conjunction with the National Symposium on Parks and Grounds in Québec City from October 26 to 29, hosted by the National Battlefields Commission.
National judges spent two days in the Truro area in August. Communities are judged on such things as tidiness, environmental action, heritage conservation, urban forestry, landscape, turf and groundcover, floral displays and communities involvement. Truro competed in the 10,001-20,000 population category.
The judges gave special recognition to the Glooscap Heritage Centre.

Victoria Park and Victoria Park Pool
Receive Central Nova Tourist Association
Attraction of the Year Award ~ May 6, 2011

Victoria Park and Victoria Park Pool received the Central Nova Tourist Association's Attraction of the Year Award during an awards ceremony held at Jost Vineyards in Malagash on Friday, May 6, 2011. Truro Town Coun. Sharron Byers, who is chair of the town's Tourism Committee and also a member of the town's Parks, Recreation and Culture Committee accepted the award on behalf of the town.
This is what the CNTA had to say:
Whether you’re looking for a place to relax or a place to play, Victoria Park and Victoria Park Pool have so much to offer.  The Victoria Park Pool has had a huge impact on the tourism industry and is a centrepiece of this stunning recreational area.
This 1,000-acre, very special and unique place in Truro came into being in 1887 and attracts countless visitors each year to its wooded trails, swimming pool, picnic areas, waterfalls, ball field, playground, outdoor stage and more.  During winter months, visitors enjoy walking, snowshoeing, skating and cross-country skiing in The Park. It’s truly a year-round facility.
Victoria Park is home to a number of annual events hosted by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture. They include: Truro Winter Long John Festival held each February, an Easter Egg Hunt, Canada’s Parks Day in July, and YouthStock in September. These events draw people from throughout the region and beyond.
In 2010, the public voted Victoria Park as the “Best in Colchester” attraction during a contest put on by the Truro and District Chamber of Commerce.  In addition, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture, which oversees public usage of Victoria Park, is already getting numerous calls from people looking to book facilities within The Park for personal and public functions.
The Central Nova Tourist Association is pleased to bestow the CNTA Attraction of the Year Award to Victoria Park and Victoria Park Pool.
