The patrol section are the uniformed first responders to calls for service.  The Patrol Section provides 24 hour service to the community.  There are four platoons and each of these platoons are supervised by a Sergeant and a Corporal. There are five members assigned to each platoon who work 12 hour shifts, four days on and then four days off. This section comprises the largest portion of the Truro Police Service.

There are numerous duties involved in this section.  
Duties include:

- Meeting the community policing needs by excellent police presence
- Performing funeral escorts
- Conducting criminal investigations
- Detecting drunk drivers
- Answering calls of domestic violence
- Conducting traffic accident investigation
- Traffic and by law enforcement
- Responding to 911 emergency calls
- Answering routine non-emergency calls
- Assisting motorist
