This permit is a written approval that your plans for your property construction/alterations/use comply with the Town of Truro Land Use By-law. A development permit is not a building permit; it indicates that your intentions are in accordance with the Town of Truro regulations and bylaws for your specific location.

A Building or a Development Permit is required for:

  • New Building Construction
  • Structural Change
  • Building Demolition
  • Building Relocation
  • Change Of Occupancy Or Use
  • Swimming Pools (Deeper Than 24 Inches/ 60 Cm)
  • Building Repairs Or Renovations
  • Re-roofing Where The Roof Pitch Is Being Changed
  • Interior Alterations
  • Accessory Buildings That Are Greater Than 20 M2 (215ft2) In Floor
  • Area Decks & Stairs
  • Roof Enclosure Over An Existing Or New DeckA Building
  • Fences More Than 2m (6ft) In Height

Note:

It is the responsibility of the owner and contractor to ensure all work carried out is in accordance with the Building Code and the Land Use By-Law even though a permit may not be required.
