Town Hall

Civic BuildingThe Truro Town Council has provided responsible administration for over 100 years. Consisting of the Mayor and six Councillors (two for each ward), the present Council has two roles in the Administrative Structure. Following a review of the Town's organization, management, and operations in 1983, Council adopted a new management system called Committee of the Whole. This new management system allows Council to spend more time on matters of policy; and carry out an administrative as well as a management function. All members of Town Council are popularly elected ward officials, with the Mayor acting as the Chief Executive Officer. The main obligation of the Mayor is to provide political leadership, viewing the activities and operations of the Town as a whole. Additional mayoral responsibilities include ceremonial functions, public relations, and ambassador for the Town.
